Japanese “Netsuke” Exhibition opens at Manila and Bacolod

Unique and precious miniature Japanese carvings to be presented by the Japan Foundation, Manila in collaboration with Ayala Museum and Ayala Malls

Z:\Arts and Culture\2019\04 Traveling Exhibition Netsuke\(3) PR Material\Press Release Banner.PNG

MANILA and BACOLOD  - The Japan Foundation, Manila, in collaboration with Ayala Museum and Ayala Malls, with the support of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, present “Contemporary Wood-Carved Netsuke”, a traveling exhibition to open at Ayala Malls Capitol Central, Bacolod City from May 1 to 26, 2019 and at Ayala Malls Greenbelt 5 from July 1 to 21, 2019. Viewing is free.

As kimono culture flourished during the Edo period in Japan (1603-1868), netsuke, small carvings, were created as toggles to secure the small personal items such as money pouches, inrō (medicine containers), or tobacco containers worn suspended on cords from the obi (a sash worn with kimono). What began as functional pieces to prevent those little containers from falling to the ground evolved into small but highly creative carvings. Today, classic netsuke have gained international acclaim and regard as remarkably detailed carvings. In Japan, meanwhile, some netsuke enthusiasts and carvers have managed to keep the tradition alive.
Netsuke is unique in that daily commodities have evolved into art form in the course of time. I believe viewers can enjoy and appreciate the delicate work of art created by Japanese craftsmanship." shares Hiroaki Uesugi, Director of The Japan Foundation, Manila.
Contemporary Wood-Carved Netsuke, our new traveling exhibition, is an innovative contemporary crafts exhibition presenting 65 works by contemporary Japanese netsuke carvers and artists.
A series of special events are also lined up to complement the Netsuke exhibition. To celebrate Philippine-Japan Friendship Month in July, we have also invited two renowned netsuke artists and experts from Japan, Mr. Tadamine Nakagawa and Ms. Asuka Kajiura to give a lecture and demonstration about this distinct and historical art form.

Mober and Globe myBusiness: Driving success for SMEs

From L-R:  Globe Senior Advisor for Globe myBusiness Derrick Heng, Globe myBusiness Marketing Head Celeste Porto, Mober Founder Dennis Ng, Globe myBusiness Segment Marketing Head Anne David
Sending products to various places can be a hassle for most small businesses that may not have the resources to buy their own trucks or which simply want to avoid the heavy traffic that drivers and commuters in the metropolis face every day.

As a solution to this problem, Dennis Ng founded Mober, a Filipino tech startup that offers an on-demand mobile platform for same-day delivery services, thereby, providing cost-effective, safe, and fast logistical assistance for small businesses.

Starting in 2015, Mober was the first on demand delivery tech startup that connects small businesses to their customers and clients, as well as helps families move from one place to another.

“Our clients’ business is a business that we’re taking care of. We feel that this responsibility is really loaded on our shoulder, that we have to fulfill it,” Dennis said.

This commitment to service was why Dennis partnered with Globe myBusiness, the micro, small, and medium enterprise arm of Globe Telecom which values clients’ businesses just as much.

“Venturing into a fast-paced digital world, the need to keep up with the latest trends and innovative solutions has become more evident than ever.  Therefore, we want our clients, like Mober,  to stay on top of their operations to ensure that their business is more secure and efficient.  We want them to enjoy peace of mind with the help of our easy-to-install and affordable tracking solutions,” said Celeste Porto, Marketing Head of Globe myBusiness.

Globe myBusiness provides Mober with a tracker and fleet management system to monitor their vehicles; easily coordinate with customers and drivers in case of delays, early arrivals, or other emergencies; maximize resources and improve vehicle routing with proper planning and assessment; and receive instant updates on vehicles’ or drivers’ location with live tracking functionality.

“We installed the Globe myBusiness Vehicle Tracker to our fleet,” Dennis said. “We can see the fuel consumption of the vehicle. We can also see where they’re located, so we can give real-time information to our client,” he said.

Dennis added that another thing that made them choose Globe myBusiness is the service. “We want to make sure that if there’s a problem, then they can address it right away. That’s one thing we are looking for from a partner,” he explained.

With Globe myBusiness as a partner, SMEs can easily reach their full potential and create their own success.  For more business tips, sign up to https://mybusinessacademy.ph/ today for free.

The Wildest Predictions on How Avengers: Endgame Will End

The most-awaited action-packed conclusion to Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga will be arriving in a few weeks, and fans all over the world are gearing up for this epic finish. Reported to be the longest film in the franchise with an estimated 3-hour running time, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame has fans’ imaginations running wild on how the saga will end and how their favorite heroes will #CompleteTheMission.

With that, we have compiled some of the wildest Avengers: Endgame fan theories that will excite the Marvel geek in you!

Tony the Time Traveler
A Reddit user made an interesting theory regarding Tony Stark’s future. The theory goes:
Tony is going to have to sacrifice something, the same way Thanos had to sacrifice Gamora. But instead of sacrificing Pepper Potts, he’ll have to sacrifice something even greater. He has to go back in time to 1991 to infiltrate HYDRA, seek out the Winter Soldier, and order the hit on his parents himself. By sacrificing those he loves the most, he receives the Soul Stone to fight against Thanos - despite knowing the pain and anguish that it will incur and leading to the events of “Civil War”. It would be the hardest decision that any character has had to make in the entire MCU, and a decision that only Tony Stark himself could make, a burden that only he could bear, truly exemplifying him as ‘Iron’ Man.

A Winning Sacrifice for Cap
The second theory focuses on Iron Man’s “frenemy,” Captain America. Here’s what another Reddit user had to say about one of the franchise’s most beloved characters of all-time:
It’s safe to assume that “Endgame” will involve some sort of time travel, based on the trailers. One of the most common predictions is that Cap dies fending off Thanos as the other Avengers escape. But what if this scene actually takes place in 1942 after the Avengers have travelled back in time to retrieve the Space Stone? Here, Cap ‘dies’ defending the Avengers from Thanos. Towards the end of the movie, we see Bucky at the Captain America museum from “The Winter Soldier” looking at a photo of an elderly Steve with Peggy Carter and their family. A plaque under it reads STEVE ROGERS 1918-2011. Steve actually survived the encounter with Thanos and instead died of old age with Peggy. Yes, Steve dies and it’s emotional, but we get to see Steve get what he really wanted all along and a good happy ending that would satisfy fans. His character arc goes full circle. He sacrifices himself, but not really because he gets what he wants.

One Stone Left Unturned
Think about this: What if there’s a seventh Infinity Stone? What if there’s another stone that houses the overall consciousness of all seven stones? The reason that brought upon this theory stems from a sentient Marvel character that is known to have created the Infinity Stones themselves.
In the “Ultraverse” storyline of the Marvel Comics, the Infinity Stones weren’t just created at the Big Bang – they were once part of an all-powerful being called Nemesis. Lonely, she broke her power apart into the stones and scattered herself across the universe, with the seventh stone, the Ego Stone, housing Nemesis’ consciousness. So there could be another stone out there for the heroes to find and use. It could remove Thanos’ capabilities by reviving Nemesis.

FOX-y Newcomers
Need a compelling reason that would make you wait until the final seconds of the end credits? Check out this exciting speculation:
Not long ago, Fox and Disney shareholders agreed to the massive $71 billion Disney/Fox merger that will give Disney a majority of 21st Century Fox’s assets, including its film studio and its properties. That means that by early-to-mid-2019, once the deal is approved in other countries, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four will come back home to Marvel. While the merger is still in the works, fans have already theorized that Avengers 4 will feature a Fox Marvel character, who would introduce the X-Men or the Fantastic Four to the MCU. Many think this character will appear during an end-credit scene, with the fan-favorite pick being Doctor Doom and Kang the Conqueror.

Globe Rewards customers donate P1.6M to plant 16,000 trees in Bukidnon

One of the areas in Bukidnon covered by HIneleban’s rainforestation program.
It was a cause worth every peso and point.

Less than a month ago, Globe Telecom encouraged all its mobile customers to donate their 2018 expiring rewards points to help restore the Philippines’ primary rainforest cover via Hineleban Foundation as part of the company’s rainforestation advocacy. For every 100-point donation, (1 point is equal to 1 Peso), Globe Rewards users were able to fund one tree for planting and even give it a name.

The response was unbelievable! In just 13 days, the rewards points donated by Globe customers to Hineleban Foundation reached 1,600,300 points or P1.6 million, enough to plant 16,003 trees covering 16 hectares of denuded forest areas in Bukidnon. So far, it was the highest donation amount raised in the shortest number of days since Globe Rewards opened up use of rewards points for donation. Globe Rewards is the baseline loyalty program of Globe Postpaid, Prepaid and TM. Customers can earn points and enjoy exclusive offers by simply being loyal with Globe.
